Daphne Miller, MD

Return to Previous Page

General
Daphne Miller, MD is a Board Certified Family Physician. Prior to going to medical school, Daphne had worked for Save the Children in a rural health project in Cameroon. While collaborating closely with traditional midwives, she became interested in non-Western approaches to healing. She then graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1993 and subsequently completed a Family Practice residency training and two-year primary care research fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.

After finishing her research fellowship, Daphne decided to practice family medicine rather than devoting her time to researching it. In 2000, she opened a neighborhood medical office which she now shares with an Associate and a steady stream of UCSF medical students. The clinic model allows for ample time with each patient and is able to serve individuals from a range of ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Over the past five years, Daphne has pursued an independent study in Complementary and Alternative Medicine and has brought her knowledge into her practice. In addition, many of her patients are cared for collaboratively with acupuncturists, chiropractors and homeopaths in the neighborhood. In the winter of 2005, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicne at UCSF awarded her a 2-year Bravewell Associate Fellowship to study at the University of Arizona program in Integrative Medicine.

In addition to her clinical work, Daphne teaches in the Integrative medicine elective at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, she gives continuing medical education lectures to physicians on nutrition related topics and she teaches nutrition in elementary schools. Daphne has published her research findings on Group Medical Visits for Low Income Women (J Women’s Health March 2004) and has also had articles written about her practice in San Francisco Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, and California Family Physician. She has also been interviewed on The Dean Edell Show and KTVU. Daphne is a long time student of Hatha Yoga and uses Yoga Therapeutics in her practice. She is an avid cook and proud mother of Arlen (age 9) and Emet (age 5). Her husband Ross is an architect who specializes in ecological building design and they have collaborated on several projects that were intended to create “healing spaces”.
