During my two years of fellowship, I was concurrently a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University School of Medicine Program in Biomedical Informatics and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. In addition to completing a Masters of Science in Biomedical Informatics at Stanford, my research efforts focused on the evaluation of ATHENA DSS, a guideline-based decision support system for hypertension deployed as a randomized clinical trial at three disparate clinical sites around the United States - VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Durham VAMC, and San Francisco VAMC.
Prior to fellowship, I graduated with honors with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where I was awarded the Edwin Reithmayer, MD Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Family Medicine. During medical school, I spent one year as an exchange student in the People's Republic of China and participated in two research projects - a screening of expatriate children for their lead exposure (US Embassy / CDC joint project) and the development of an Internet-based, language-specific primary care patient education website. Upon returning to the United States, I completed residency, including a year as Chief Resident, at the San Jose Medical Center Family Practice residency, affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine.
I hope to apply the skills I gained during my fellowship to improve patient care and outcomes, especially leveraging technologies such as electronic medical records and clinical decision support systems. I am currently a family physician at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and a member of the electronic medical record implementation team. I also precept pre-clinical students at Stanford University School of Medicine and participate in ongoing research projects at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine.
