Correctional Medicine Consultation Network

The Correctional Medicine Consultation Network (CMCN) is a collaborative project between the Regents of the University of California and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).  This program was created as a result of a legal settlement and state mandate from the State of California Supreme Court.   It is a new 5-year program, funded by the State of California, and includes 32 correctional institutions across the State.

The CMCN and Specialty Consultation Network (SCN) are public service programs that are being contracted to provide on-site medical consultation for selected California CDCR patients with complex high-risk medical issues.  The CMCN consists of board certified Family Medicine or Internal Medicine primary care physicians affiliated with UCSF, Department of Family & Community Medicine.  The mission of the CMCN and SCN is to evaluate the existing standards of medical practice in 32 correctional facilities, audit samples of medical records to identify opportunities for training and professional development, make clinical recommendations as deemed necessary, and provide guidelines and training to CDCR physicians.
