Making a Difference in
Prison and Jail Healthcare

WELCOME

The Correctional Medicine Consultation Network (CMCN) is a program of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The CMCN is a ground-breaking effort that promises to enrich the work environment for correctional medical staff, to enhance the quality of medical care in prisons and jails, and to promote correctional medicine as a valuable and attractive career.  The Department of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF is committed to the reduction of healthcare disparities and the development of innovative approaches to primary and specialty care delivery. Our relationship with correctional institutions is a natural outgrowth of our mission and our recognition of the impact that incarceration has on family and community well being.

MISSION

Our mission is to improve the quality of healthcare, the dignity, and the quality of life for inmates in prisons and jails.  To insure this, we will provide support, training, and resources to correctional institution medical personnel and foster the relationship between academic, community, and correctional medicine.
